There are loads of great events that happen all over Easton. Here are some of the ones we’ve organised or helped to organise:
St Mark’s Rd Street Party – this is an annual event, usually sometime August-Oct where a big chunk of St Mark’s Road is shut off to traffic. Then people from all over Easton come and enjoy the fantastic community atmosphere, meet new people and enjoy great food and live entertainment! St Mark’s Baptist Church has been involved in organising and taking part in the street party the past few years…in all weathers! Last year we helped put on a “Peace Feast” as part of the party. Tables and chairs were put out all down the road and local restaurants provided amazing food which people could enjoy for free! All who came seemed to love being able to share food together with other Easton folk and it didn’t matter if you didn’t know the person sitting next to you!
Street Party 2010 – planning is under way for a possible party in October this year so watch this space. In the meantime here are some pics from last year to whet your appetite!
The Easton Arts Trail – For several years now, St Mark’s has been one of the venues where local artists exhibit their work as part of the Easton Arts Trail. This year we were also able to have our community cafe open so all who came to view the exhibits could enjoy a fresh cup of tea and and slice of homemade cake served by our fantastic team of volunteers. We also had a prayer table where people were invited to write down any requests and place them in a box. There were also members of St Mark’s available if people wanted prayer there and then. There was such a lovely atmosphere in the building over the whole weekend as we were able to celebrate the wonderful gifts of creativity in our community.
Gospel Choir Concerts – At the end of each term the Gospel Generation Community Choir love to perform the songs they’ve learned together. St Mark’s has hosted several concerts and is a wonderful venue, boasting great acoustics, for these evenings. There will be another concert in December sometime. Details to follow.
